About Us

The Washington, DC, region is a great place to live for so many people, and the Greater Greater Washington community believes it can be a greater place to live for many more.

The mission of Greater Greater Washington is to inform, engage, and influence the public and policy makers to advance racial, economic, and environmental justice in land use, transportation, and housing throughout Greater Washington. We want to live and work in places with sidewalks, bike lanes, and frequent transit; with grocery stores, parks, and plenty of housing choices at attainable prices; that is accessible and welcoming to people of all income levels and backgrounds.

Our programs

  • Our editorial work informs and educates people around the Washington region and world about the forces that shape our region and the people in it.
  • Our policy and advocacy efforts bring together residents to push for a greater region and individual neighborhoods through online and offline organizing.
  • Our engagement and education programming creates learning and skill-building opportunities and fosters stronger networks to build the field of leaders.
  • The DC Transportation Equity Network is a cross-sector coalition of direct-service and advocacy organizations committed to seeing a complete transportation system that ensures vulnerable residents are accounted for in the District of Columbia. Greater Greater Washington manages DC TEN and its activities.

Who we are

Greater Greater Washington is run by a team of staff and overseen by board members who live in the Washington region. Staff lead diverse portfolios of work that span editorial, advocacy, and engagement.

Since Greater Greater Washington was founded in 2008, volunteers have played a significant role in our work. Some volunteers participate by writing about ways the Washington metro region can reflect our shared vision. Others advise our work, assist at our events, curate Breakfast Links each morning, and more. Our contributors on the publication are made up of staff, volunteers, and freelancers.
