This doesn't have any relevance to this posting but encourage people you know in California to vote for high speed rail tomorrow (Prop 1A). It is expensive but California needs an alternative to $4 per gallon gas and endless traffic on freeways. The Urban Mobility Report

published by the Texas Transportation Institute lists

L.A.-Orange County as having the nation's worst

traffic, followed by the Bay Area, which is tied for

the second worst traffic. The annual average delay

per traveler is more than twice the hours of the New

York-Newark region. Additionally, San Diego had the

nation's sixth worst traffic and the Inland Empire

(Riverside-San Bernardino) ranked 13th.

California is forecasted to have approximately 45

million people by 2025 and will have nearly 60 million

people by 2050. Projects like this are necessary if

the state is to remain a desirable place to live. In

addition to reducing traffic, this will also reduce

auto accidents and will improve air quality. High

speed rail is expensive but all the lost hours people

spend on gridlocked freeways is probably more

expensive.
