I think that's a bit extreme.

I don't think it is. However I do believe the idea of refusing to "engage" in W8 because of Marion Barry is extreme and rather irrational.

And yet I also think Barry is an embarrassing raffish old grifter

Although he's not an embarrassment to me, I do agree that he's a raffish old grifter.
