First off, I love the 1990 Topps baseball card. There should be cards for every abandoned property in the city.

This says a lot about how they happened and why they are so hard to get rid of/fix. Any subsidy to fix up places like this will probably unfortunately involve a debate about gentrification. But abandoned buildings are one of the primary targets of crime prevention through environmental design, and anything that has been proven to minimize violence like what was described above is worth a try in my book.
