They'd put it along the I-95 corridor. There's already considerable development planned there, both private (like Konterra) and federal (like at Fort Meade) . . .

As much as I agree with your post - and, of course, any push to put more development on the east side - I-95 IS NOT in Montgomery County. It's in Prince George's, as is Konterra. Fort Meade is east of 295 in Anne Arundel County. MoCo has no control over what happens on I-95 - nor do they have a lot of interest in nurturing it, because it would draw attention away from I-270, because that's all theirs.

The political divisions are tough. "Science City" would be a boon to East Montgomery County because of its proximity to FDA and the new Washington Adventist Hospital - but it would end up on P.G. soil. Or maybe Hopkins would push for a more compact form, requiring 200 acres instead of 900. There's room to do that on the east side. Either of those options would be better than what they're proposing.

I'm confident that Chairman Royce Hanson and director Rollin Stanley are committed to a more urban MoCo, but I'm not sure if they know what they're dealing with here. Stanley, especially, because he previously headed the planning departments in St. Louis and Toronto, suggesting he's not totally "there" when it comes to a suburban county.
