People like to complain about Metro. If you change the fare system, people will complain about the changes you made. If you go to a zone system, people who are going one stop past a zone boundary will complain about the zones. If you go to a flat fare system, people who use Metro for short trips will complain. There's no way you'll find a system that will make everyone happy.
