Not to be nit-picky, but the ACS isn't really meant for counts of totals, like total housing units in a census tract. It's getting all of the data from a sample, so demographic expressions of the population are more suitable. For a more accurate analysis of this kind of thing, we'll have to wait until the Summary File 1 of the 2010 Census is released in the summer of 2011. This will give better estimates for total housing units.
