Register NOW to testify for the Purple Line

Can you go to New Carrollton on Saturday, November 15th at 10:30 am to testify for the light rail Purple Line?

MTA Maryland is letting 30 people preregister to testify for each of the four upcoming Purple Line hearings. Those people and elected officials will get to testify first. And now, you can call in to snag one of those 30 spots.

The New Carrollton hearing is the first one, and the tone of testimony will influence media coverage of the project. We need to get a bunch of light rail Purple Line supporters among the 30 spots. You don't need to live in New Carrollton to participate.

If you can testify at that hearing, please call 866-842-9283 NOW. There's only one person answering the phones at MTA Maryland, so if it's busy, keep trying.

Here's the complete list of hearings:

  • New Carrollton on Sunday Saturday, November 15th, open house 10:30 am, hearing 11:00
  • Chevy Chase on Tuesday, November 18th, open house 4:30 pm, hearing 5:00
  • College Park on Wednesday, November 19th, open house 4:30 pm, hearing 5:00
  • Silver Spring on Saturday, November 22nd, open house 12:30 pm, hearing 1:00

You can preregister for any of the hearings. And if you're not sure you can attend, you can still show up at the actual hearing and speak after those first 30. Getting a lot of supportive testimony throughout the hearing is very important as well. Look here for locations and more details.

Call now to get your spot. If you get through, post a comment to let us know. 866-842-9283.

I was going to write a post on this topic! Thanks for posting this information. I encourage everyone to either call in advance to testify or send in a written testimonial about this important project. Most importantly, that the community wants the high investment light rail option. This option has been deemed cost-effective by the FTA and is therefore eligible for federal funding.

Oops, fixed.

Thanks for posting this!!

As far as the various light rail options: The low-investment option makes no sense at all, because it is slower and carries fewer riders than the medium option, but costs almost as much. There are good points about both the high and medium options.

The MTA is not obligated to choose either option as a complete package - they can pick and choose parts of both. When you testify - say which parts of each of those options you like and don't like.

Does anyone know how many stops there will be between College Park and New Carrolton if its just riverdale.

Why not just have it end at college park instead of adding the extra cost if there will be only one station, if its more than one then it would be useful its it just the one that is a horrible waste of money.

Looks like on the map between College Park and New Carrollton are:

River Road, Riverdale Park, Riverdale Road, and Annapolis Road
