Simple solution: Get an Android phone. Higher end Android phones from HTC, Sony, and Samsung are far better than the iPhone with significantly more capabilities and features.

The iSheeple need to break their addiction to anything with a fruit logo on it, and start using their brains when choosing a smartphone.

I supported this project, and I think it's worth throwing in $10 to see how it goes.

That being said, Google is working on creating their own Google Maps client for iOS 6 (Apple created the current Google Maps client). We should see a similar app to what is currently on the iPhone if Google cares enough. It's possible they'll release a really half-assed app like Gmail for iOS.

I think it's a little bit strong to say that users won't be able to get transit directions. Apple won't have them in the Maps app at the beginning (but I expect they will be there some day), but there are already third party transit apps on iOS. Supporting OpenTripPlanner can only help, but it won't be the only transit app on iOS 6.

Gray, Actually, OpenTripPlanner began as a web-based tool and is designed to support client applications that run on any platform. This project aims to create a native open source iOS client specifically designed to fill the gap left in new iOS 6. However, as we mention in the project page we intend build native Android as well and there already HTML interfaces that run on any client with a web browser.

So I'm trying to understand this whole thing. OpenTripPlanner is striving to be super open and all...but it will only be usable on iOS?
