It's time for DC to simply do what it wants on NPS space, within reason, and let NPS sputter and complain about it later. Civil disobedience.

SUBJECT: Policy concerning picking of wild mushrooms in NP.
Is there any established policy for mushroom picking in the National Parks. I am inquiring for the Puget Sound Mycological Society in the State of Washington. We are looking for established policy (Printed matter), or someone in the DOI, who has jurisdiction or knowledg of the subject.
(Name,office,telephone number or e-mail address)

Whats the point of having so many parks in DC in the first place. Many of them are not used and are really just a waste of space such as Ft Dupont, Ft Chaplin and Ft Davis; those parks are for the most part just a mini forest in DC as less than 5% of them are cleared grass land that could be used for something.

Ft Dupont for instance is a gigantic waste of space it should be cut by more than half and just make the parts near Minnesota Ave, Mass Ave, Alabama Ave, Ely Place and Ridge Rd parks and the rest just develop it.

Alexcy Romero has been wholly unresponsive to not just residents but his staff. The park sites east of the river are "great" but could be much greater as is the theme of this blog.

Thank you for this article.

NPS has a lack of funding for programs and a congestion problem on the parkways, what to do, what to do...

The rules basically seem to say "don't let anyone do anything unless it comes from a DOI employee and promotes the DOI"

Maybe that's what need to be fixed first

When you say NPS is constrained by rules - is this statuary requirements or regulations issued by the NPS? Where does the change need to come from? Congress or the executive?

NPS isn't going to make parks safer to walk and bike, or enjoyable for sitting and eating, or more active for daytime and evening activities, unless people personally ask them to.

For the people, by the people. But only if you beg first.
