Greater Greater Washington

Can you guess the station? It's whichWMATA week 14

This week, it's time for a little something different on whichWMATA: Your entries. We picked the best five images from reader submissions. Can you guess the five stations these images depict?

In the future, we'll have more reader submissions, so while you're riding Metro keep your eyes (and cameraphones) peeled for unique stations and architectural features.

We'll hide the comments so that the early birds don't spoil the fun for the rest of you.

The answers will appear on Wednesday. Good luck!

Err, the pylon for photo #5 is visible as Grosvenor-Strathmore -- maybe you want to blur that somehow?

1) That curve in the platform makes me say Brookland.
2) Huntington. 'sup tiny escalators and funicular.
3) Stadium-Armory
4) Farragut North. Those overhead tiles are shiny and new, and that overhang is for the K and L Street exits
5) Grosvenor

#1: The photographer reveals that it's a Red Line train and it's above ground. It looks like either Fort Totten or Takoma...I'm gonna go with Fort Totten.
#2: No idea. I get that the elevator next to the escalator is the clue, but I've got nothing.
#3: Stadium-Armory. That's actually too easy. :)
#4: I know I've seen those wall stains and I believe I've seen them at L'Enfant Plaza.
#5: I believe this is a Virginia station and it's an above ground station that goes underground. So...East Falls Church? (I think that one's above ground.)

These 'guess the station' series are really depressing! It's a reminder of how generic the system is.

#5 - Grosvenor-Strathmore

by nativedc on Jul 15, 2014 9:46 am • linkreport

The first one is a guess based on the platform appearing to my eye to be ever-so-slightly curved, though that could just be a trick of the lens.

1) Brookland (I believe that's the only stop in the system with a curved platform)
2) Huntington (the funicular on the left is one giveaway)
3) Stadium-Armory (the sign on the right is the giveaway if you don't recognize the yellow banner above)
4) Farragut North
5) Prince George's Plaza

by Rich on Jul 15, 2014 10:05 am • linkreport

1) Based on the apparent curve I'll say Brookland-CUA.
2) No clue. Looks new, so ... Glenmont?
3) Based on the sign saying where to go and the box for which line is next, I'm guessing a splitting station with tourists, so... Stadium-Armory?
4) L'enfant Plaza?
5) This is definitely Grovesnor, I took that train to school every day for years.

by Andrew on Jul 15, 2014 10:28 am • linkreport

1) Brookland (curved platform)
2) NoMa (shiny & new)
3) Stadium (sign)
4) No clue. Gallery Place?
5) Grosvenor-Strathmore (viewing large image shows the brown poles have something like this name I wouldn't have gotten it otherwise, so you can count me out for cheating if you wish)

#! -- Twinbrook. #2 -- not sure about the glass doors on (and location of) the elevator, but I"m going with Tenleytown. #3 is definitely Stadium/Armory, and #4 is definitely Grosvenor-Strathmore.

Oops -- Left out one.

#1 -- Twinbrook. #2 -- Tenleytown. #3 -- Stadium/Armory. #4 -- total guess (even though I'm fairly certain this is a station I have spent a lot of time at) -- I'm going with Farragut North. #5 Grosvenor-Strathmore.
