How much is too much
Maryland Secretary of Transportation, Pete Rahn, is concerned about how much Metro paid its general counsel, Kathryn Pett, but Metro officials defended the choice due to her familiarity with the FTA review process. (Post)
Approval needed
The FTA must approve all of WMATA’s safety fixes if they are to be considered final. Last month, WMATA received an inspection report from FTA with 91 safety issues that the transit agency has to fix. (Post)
Livable, walkable Rosslyn
Arlington has an ambitious new plan for Rosslyn. The plan includes taller buildings, walkable parks, two-way streets, and a better mix of residential, office, and nightlife places. (Post)
Room for improvement
Two out of three bus stops are not ADA-compliant in Arlington. Bus stop accessibility issues are prevalent around the region. Arlington and other jurisdictions have committed to retrofit non-compliant stops. (Post)
More bike lane
DDOT released its plans to extend the 15th Street protected bikeway. The plans allow the protected bikeway to continue to Euclid Street, which will greatly increase bicyclist and pedestrian safety in the area. (WABA)
Be polite
Public transit commuters are nicer to one another, according to a report from Singapore. People who regularly ride are more likely to line up, give up seats to those in need and move in to allow more people to board. (The Straits Times, David C)
