Take the pledge to drop your car for one day tomorrow on Car Free Day! Share you opinion on Prince George’s parks budget or a new area plan for Bethesda, take a walk to learn about new development in White Flint, or hop on your bike to learn about affordable housing in Arlington.

Go car free: People worldwide will choose to lose their wheels and participate in Car Free Day, this Tuesday, September 22, to bring awareness to the benefits of alterative ways to get around like transit, biking, and walking. “Car-lite” options like carpooling are also encouraged. Don’t miss out!

After the jump: new budgets, Bethesda, White Flint, Arlington housing, and more.

New Prince George’s budget: A budget is out for Prince George’s County’s planning, parks, and recreation. Two public meetings are planned to gather input on the spending plan. The first is tonight, September 21, in the Multipurpose Room at 7007 Bock Road in Ft. Washington, and the second is tomorrow, September 22, in the Town Hall room of 8001 Sheriff Road in Landover. Both run from 7 pm to 9 pm.

A changing Bethesda: The Westbard Sector Plan, the first effort since 1982 to create a unifying plan for Bethesda’s Westbard area, could bring positive change to the area. Share you comments on the plan at a public meeting on Thursday, September 24, at 6:30 pm, at 8787 Georgia Ave in Silver Spring.

Walking White Flint: White Flint was once known as a suburban mall, but today it’s evolving into Montgomery County’s newest walkable district. RSVP to reserve a spot on Coalition for Smarter Growth’s White Flint walking tour this Saturday, September 26, from 10 am to 12 pm.

Housing tour: Learn more about affordable housing by taking a short two mile bike tour to Parc Rosslyn and Colonial Village Apartments, two affordable housing developments in Arlington. The ride is on Saturday, September 26, starting at 9:30 am, and will begin in Rosslyn and end at the Clarendon Day festival.

Future of planning: Join the crowd at the APA Policy and Advocacy Conference for a Monday evening conversation with Eric Shaw, DC’s Director of Planning. He’ll talk about local planning issues and nationwide trends, and you’ll have a chance to network with PAC attendees and area planners. No cost, no registration, free appetizers.
