We’re teaching people to write great blog posts, and you’re invited! If you can’t make that, check out a panel on fixing WMATA. Later in the week, share your thoughts on the 16th Street bus lanes or learn about Bus Rapid Transit.

Blogging in Virginia: Monday night, January 11th, we’re teaching a crash course on how to use blogs to communicate effectively. We’ll be at 8607 Westwood Center Drive, Suite 250, in Vienna, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Your’e invited, and you can RSVP here!

After the jump: WMATA (and its new GM), equity and planning, BRT, and 16th Street bus lanes.

Fixing WMATA: WMATA has recently been plagued by more than just a few issues. The Montgomery County Civic Federation is hosting WMATA managing director Shyam Kannan and Bob Fogel, a member of the WMATA Riders Advisory Council, to discuss the best way to tackle these issues. The panel is today, January 11, at 7:30 pm at 101 Monroe Street in Rockville.

Equity and urban planning: Urban planning can play a major role in more equitable development. Learn more about the intersections of economic development, environmental protection, and underserved communities from Carlton Eley, an urban planner for the US EPA, at Tuesdays at APA on January 12, at 5:30 pm at 1030 15th Street, NW, Suite 750 West.

Benefits of BRT: Demand for rapid bus service is increasing across the country. Join Smart Growth America, Transportation for America, and the National Institute for Transportation and Communities on Tuesday, January 12, from 10:30 am to 12 pm to discuss a new report that links rapid bus systems to economic growth, jobs, retail, and housing.

New Metro GM: Head over to this month’s Action Committee for Transit meeting to hear from Paul Wiedefeld, Metro’s new general manager. His talk starts Tuesday, January 12 at 7:30 pm at the Silver Sparing Civic Building, One Veterans Place.

16th Street bus lanes: A new dedicated rush hour bus system could run along 16th Street, from Arkansas Avenue to H Street. Share your opinion on the plan at the final meeting next Thursday, January 21, at 1529 16th St NW. The space will be open from 3:30 pm to 8 pm and there will be two presentations, one at 4 pm and one at 7 pm.
