This week, hang out with fellow Greater Greater Washington readers and contributors, along with Montgomery County Planning Board chair Casey Anderson, at our happy hour in Silver Spring. Later in the week, take a stroll along the Mall to talk about its history and design, share thoughts on livability in Ward 7, and learn how to design protected bike lanes.

GGWash happy hour: Spend the evening with fellow urban planning, transit, and housing enthusiasts, along with the chair of Montgomery County’s Planning Board, at our happy hour on Tuesday, June 21st. It’s at Bump ‘n Grind (1200 East-West Highway) in Silver Spring, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Join us!

After the jump: Walk to the Capitol, Ward 7, and protected bike lanes.

Walk the Mall: Join a walk from the White House to the Capitol to discuss current and historical street design and consider the many presidential inaugurations and civil rights marches that have walked the same route. The walk, hosted by the League of Sidewalk Superintendents, is on Wednesday, June 22nd, and will start at the Ellipse Visitor Pavilion (15th and E Street NW) at 6:30 pm.

Livability in Ward 7: What could make neighborhoods DC’s southeast quadrant better for residents? The District Department of Transportation wants to hear from you! Share your thoughts on transportation and livability at the first public workshop this Saturday, June 25 at 4601 Texas Avenue SE. A livability parade begins at 10:30am, followed by an open house and presentation at 12 pm.

Protected bike lane workshop: Want to learn how to design protected bike lanes? Discuss and learn the latest design guides at a workshop with Toole Design and the Federal Highway Administration next Wednesday, June 29, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. It’s at 777 North Capitol Street, and you can RSVP to attend.
