The DC Department of Real Estate Services, formerly the Office of Property Management, has informed DC government employees that their parking rates will rise gradually over three years to market rates. This implements the Council’s directive, part of the recently-approved budget.

According to the DRES memo obtained by GGW, DC government parking fees will rise from the current $75-80/month to $120 a month. In 2010 and 2011, DRES will continue to raise the fees up to “the market rate at each location.” That presumably means that parking at an outlying government facility far from Metro will appropriately cost less than at a downtown building.

Will top executives with reserved parking around the Wilson Building also have to pay? The Council should also extend this policy to members and staff.
