Events: VOTE!

If you want to help make your community the best it can be, the most important thing you can do this week is get out and vote. There’s plenty on the line in the national presidential election, but there are also lots of important state and local elections, and you should make your voice heard!
Greater Greater Washington published a set of endorsements for races across the region, and WAMU put together a very useful voter guide as well. Here are resources more tailored to DC (if you’re voting there, make sure to check out our endorsements for ANC elections!), Maryland, and Virginia.

Monday, November 7: Loudoun County, like DC, is taking a close look at their Comprehensive Plan, their guide for future growth, development, and transit decisions. Now is your chance to weigh in! Attend one of four public meetings. The first one is today, Monday, November 7, at 18980 Upper Belmont Place. The next three are next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Thursday, November 10: Fairfax City wants to improve walking and biking conditions throughout the downtown area with an update to its mutimodal transportation plan. Share your input at one of two sessions over the next two weeks: Thursday, November 10 from 11 am to 1 pm at 4401 Sideburn Road and Thursday, November 17 from 7 pm to 9 pm at 3801 Jermantown Road.
Next Monday, November 14: DC’s Comprehensive Plan, the guidebook for where and how to grow, is due for an update. We need your help to make it the best it can be. The last meeting is next Monday at 6:00 pm at 1001 Monroe Street NE. If you didn’t make a meeting in your neighborhood, you can fill out the survey here or sign up here to get further updates from GGWash about ways to make a difference on this Comp Plan process.
Next Tuesday, November 15: Curious about how DC’s Inclusionary Zoning (IZ) policy works? You’re probably not alone. Get the lowdown on the history and future of this policy and how it works in DC’s toolkit to help create more affordable housing at Tuesday at APA next Tuesday, November 15, at 5:30 pm at 1030 15th St NW.
Next Wednesday, November 16: Our transportation system needs to serve everybody, including older adults and people with disabilities, but there are often gaps in access. Head over to an open mic-style event to hear, learn and develop recommendations to make transportation services easier for everyone to use. The event starts at 4 pm and is at 4058 Minnesota Avenue NE.
As soon as you’re able!: There’s no need to leave the house for this one. The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, which controls $400 million per yearin funds for building new transportation projects, wants to know what you think our region’s transportation priorities should be. Should we have more transit access and more frequent service? More Park and Rides or highway connections? Take the NVTA’s survey to weigh in.
