First time I've seen/heard of many of these developments, thank you. Not ONE word about sustainability - building green, though - as in LEED certified planning and construction. I suspect this is just the usual same old/same old kind of development - if Gudelsky is going for high level LEED certification, I would think they would prominently advertise that fact. Another lost opportunity to showcase sustainable design?

Why dont they redevelop the ENTIRE WesTech business park and the decaying apartment complexes in the White Oak area and combine with the FDA into Science City II. Light rail up NH Ave to US 29. This would be a much bigger picture transformation rather than just simply building another neotraditional mixed use development on vacant lots. If developers want the same on I-270 I cant see why they cant on US 29. The issue seems to be the lack of community and political support for such transformation, the result of which was the current Fairland and White Oak Master Plans which buffer the status quo over building a successful corridor that complements I-270 in the Biotech Triangle.

The walk is 1-2.3 miles from the FDA buildings.

Neil - that is apparently an alternate plan for the blue area. The street grids do not match up, but the shape of the parcel does. And I agree on disappointing.

Neil, the plan you linked to - of the original East County Center for Science and Technology - will be replaced by LifeSci Village. It was never built. The area where it would have been is the blue area in the site plan above.

But compared to what's there now, the ECCST would've been an improvement.

If this is the actual lab park... it's not actually as urban as the rest of the site... and kind of disappointing.

Looks like they're going for a kind of homey, old-world feel.

Fine. I'll say it. What's with the overhead wires? :-)
