My great-great grandfather played a bit of baseball while stationed here with the DC Volunteers during the civil war. Things must have been pretty boring around here after Gettysburg, so I can easily imagine them playing a lot.

ThatÂ’s a nice article Kent.

Have you heard of the Washington Nationals team that toured westward in 1867? Their tour helped spread the popularity of baseball.

Frank Ceresi has written about them.
