New calendar shows scheduled Metro track work and delays
On Monday, Metro announced its schedule of weeknight and weekend track work. With so much of the system being upgraded and maintained, it's difficult to remember when to expect delays and disruptions.
Therefore, we've created a new track work calendar.
We'll do our best to keep it updated, but please remember that it is subject to change. We cannot guarantee its accuracy, but every effort will be made to keep it up to date. Always check with Metro, though, before starting your trip.
The calendar will only reflect scheduled track work, not unscheduled service disruptions. We'd welcome your suggestions for improvements.
Note that there is one major track work project coming up in late May. The Orange Line will be completely closed between East Falls Church and West Falls Church the entire Memorial Day weekend (May 28-31), including Monday. Free shuttle buses will connect East and West Falls Church stations. Riders are advised to add at least 30 minutes to their travel time. This closure allows construction of the Silver/Orange Line connection.

Also, can it be set to allow subscriptions from within iCal?

Should be fixed now. Please try again. Sorry for the glitch. Thanks for alerting me to it.

The tunnel between Medical Center and I-495 is not collapsing.
There has been water penetration (leaking) which has caused some components to have shortened lifespans.
However, this project is part of a several-year project to rebuild the oldest segments of the system. The project is known as the Red Line Rehabilitation Contract. Metro can save time and money by focusing all work on one contiguous segment of track.
So one weekend, they might be replacing track fasteners and the next communications cables. Once the work is done, that section of track should be able to go for a while without any major work projects.
I have inquired about the status of the project, and Metro claims that it is on schedule. I'm working to get more information, including details about the work scope.

Do you need to update this manually? Can we expect it will be updated and reliable going forward? I've already added it in to my own google calendar...

It is manually updated, but it's not that much work.
I will update the calendar as soon as practicable when WMATA releases their work schedule or cancels work publicly.
