I agree with Obama on this.

But how many of you agree with Hillary who not only takes the opposite stance (along with McCain), but who also wants to reimpose the NMSL of 55 mph?!?!

When Kennedy made that famous statement, was he RUNNING for President, or already elected?? There's plenty of reason for optimism that Obama will put "sacrifices" a bit more once he's in office.

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

An extremely popular president once asked Americans to make sacrifices. I suppose pandering is more important to some politicians than others.

America is facing an energy crisis. Although I wasn't around to witness it, in the 1970s, if you passed people on the freeway going more than 55, they'd honk at you to get you to slow down. Whether politicians tell us to or not, we ARE going to have to make sacrifices. Maybe if a politician (statesman) acted like they were in tune to reality, they'd get brownie points.

Anyway, as Mr. Obama points out, his campaign is about changing the rhetoric in Washington. Don't get me wrong, I think he's done more than any candidate has in recent years, but he could do better when it comes to energy policy.

Good for Obama. A gas tax holiday is unlikely to reduce the price significantly and will reduce funds for transportation maintenance.

At least one of our candidates for Prez has a brain. Transportation policy in this country drives me bonkers. Hopefully Obama will be different.

The problem with mentioning your points is that they involve sacrifice. People don't vote for sacrifices, they do vote for alteratives. Of coarse the ideas that those points are sacrifices are debatable, but to much of the country that’s what they hear.
