An extremely popular president once asked Americans to make sacrifices. I suppose pandering is more important to some politicians than others. America is facing an energy crisis. Although I wasn't around to witness it, in the 1970s, if you passed people on the freeway going more than 55, they'd honk at you to get you to slow down. Whether politicians tell us to or not, we ARE going to have to make sacrifices. Maybe if a politician (statesman) acted like they were in tune to reality, they'd get brownie points. Anyway, as Mr. Obama points out, his campaign is about changing the rhetoric in Washington. People don't vote for sacrifices, they do vote for alteratives.
