WashCycle has a nice roundup of everything that’s been going on with the Purple Line.

Recently, Chevy Chase NIMBYs launched another round of attacks on the Purple Line, trying to move it to another, worse alignment but only within Chevy Chase (their arguments apparently don’t apply to any other towns). They hired Sam Schwartz, who New Yorkers know as the man who coined the term “gridlock” and supported congestion pricing. Unfortunately, he was paid by Chevy Chase and delivered what they wanted. John Porcari, Maryland Secretary of Transportation, responded.

The Purple Line opponents have also been claiming that the Capital Crescent Trail will be destroyed by the Purple Line. The trail runs in the old railroad right-of-way that has always been planned to hold the Purple Line, and the but this isn’t new and won’t destroy the trail, and won’t be dangerous despite the claims of Purple Line detractors.
