TBD announces cuts

TBD is eliminating most of their staff, the WBJ is reporting. TBD has provided high-quality local reporting since their launch last August, particularly Dave Jamieson's TBD On Foot blog, which has brought much-needed attention to pedestrian, bicycle, and transit issues.
David Alpert is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Greater Greater Washington and Greater Greater Education. He worked as a Product Manager for Google for six years and has lived in the Boston, San Francisco, and New York metro areas in addition to Washington, DC. He loves the area which is, in many ways, greater than those others, and wants to see it become even greater.

That blows. I liked them.

This is surprising. They seemed poised to take over the local news scene here and probably could have launced a TBD in every major city like the IST blogs. DCist for me is a little too cheesey and sometimes snarky. TBD on the other hand seemed to take more of a journalism approach to local news blogging while keeping it fun. I assume the amount and depth of coverage at TBD will now plumet and it will be just like having two Dcists. Too bad.

Meh, TBD focuses the majority of their coverage on the district.

I like the blog aggregating the most, actually. They take the best news from local blogs and organize it geographically. It's a pretty good resource, I think, and I hope they can find a way to keep it alive.

They were a bit of a disappointment esp. when you consider ho awful WaPo is as a local paper. They actually didn't seem to generate the weblinks and blogrolls I would have expected and they didn't seem to stake out a specific niche. Now it sounds like they will try to peel readers away from City Paper.

I loved the intent behind TBD... but ultimately I was never a fan of their reporting. It often missed or misinterpreted a number of elements... to their credit, I never felt it was intentional; but always left me a bit disheartened.

Interesting. On Feb 11, 2011 I noticed a significent spike in vistors to my blog A Trip Within The Beltway, and saw it was because they linked to one of my articles- url below

http://wwwtripwithinthebeltway.blogspot.com/2011/02/sw-freeway-landing-area-targeted.html

I usually get about 25 daily, but that day was up to about 250 within the morning hours, which once I found this out, quickly tapered off to like an additional 5 visits for the rest of the day.

Again. Didnt ch7/ news 8 just merge into tbd?
They fired Beverly Kirk which angered me, citing budget cuts.

But they had money to hire Morris Jones(does it look like he had a facelift to you all?).

I wonder who will remain this time?
