Shot a cyclist? It's OK: The Asheville firefighter who shot a cyclist in the head because he thought cycling with a kid was unsafe will spend only four months in jail. A grand jury previously rejected an attempted murder charge, and now the judge awarded a lighter than average prison sentence. (Streetsblog)

They did give him a felony assault indictment, which only carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison. Grand juries usually indict people for anything prosecutors ask. (Streetsblog) (Comment)
Turns out it was unsafe after all: An Asheville firefighter passed a mom and dad biking down the road, with a child in a bike seat behind the dad. He thought it was unsafe, so he spoke his mind to the couple. When they didn't comply, he SHOT THE DAD. (Asheville Citizen-Times, Jeff Peel) (Comment)
