Spray parks, the giant water fountains kids play in, will stay open longer in DC
DC has 24 “spray parks,” which are basically playgrounds with fountains that spray water all over kids while they play. Up until now, they’ve been programmed to stop functioning at 7 pm even though parks stay open until dark. Big win for buses: Mayor Bowser will fund better service on 14th Street and more
Since November, riders, allies, ANC commissioners, and Greater Greater Washington have been advocating for the 59, a bus that would operate similar to an express route along 14th Street NW. Today, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announced her support, saying she’s included funding for the 59 in her upcoming budget. And there’s a bonus! You can make your bike harder to steal, easier to recover
One night in 2008, I left a friend’s apartment to head home and discovered that my bike was gone. Someone had sawed through four inches of wood directly in front of a Mount Pleasant apartment building with a guard on duty. About a week ago, thanks to some precautions I had taken, I got that bike back (well, aside from the missing front wheel). Bike theft is unfortunately common. Keep reading…
